A Testimony of Evelyn P.
“Life is an everyday miracle in the hands of God.”
Psalm 149:9 says, “The Lord is good to everyone. He showers compassion in all His creation.” I praise and thank God for the gift of life. It is by His all-out goodness that we still have this life.
It was in January 2013 that I was diagnosed with breast cancer. My green card was just granted at that time. After 15 long years of waiting to be in U.S., coping with breast cancer was my first faith challenge. But because I have received and personally knew Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior and have entrusted Him my life, my outlook didn’t change when this diagnosis came. My faith in God kept me going. In this journey, God’s great promises in the Bible have been helping me through tough times. Indeed, God’s word comes into flesh in every aspect of my circumstances. 2 Peter 1:3 says: “His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who has called us by His own glory and goodness.” What else could we ask for, when Jesus has given us His divine power in everything we need for life?
Since finances for the surgery was needed, as I did not have medical insurance in U.S. and had no job yet as a new settler in America, my family, my Bible study group and I prayed for God’s leading. My medical insurance and benefits in a university in the Philippines where I taught for 35 years were still available (I was on a leave of absence when I left for America), so I decided to go back to the Philippines for my double mastectomy. It was still by God’s working that He brought in a Christian missionary doctor who is an oncologist to perform the major surgery. The healing time was so quick as Exodus 15:26 promised, “I am the God that healeth thee.” The six months of chemotherapy was one of the most difficult times of my treatment, but God’s hand was at work in every cellof my body. It was not easy to receive every dose of chemotherapy every month. However, every time it was performed my nurse would agree in prayer for God’s intervention. At times it was hard for her to find the vein and we had to pray again. God indeed does miracles. A small vein showed up after we prayed. God controlled every side effect of the drug. His word sustained me every moment in those six months. This was my ‘password’: Phil. 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Indeed God’s word became flesh. As I come to Jesus in prayer and on bended knees I gain inner strength to endure though nausea, vomiting and feeling of weakness are still there.
Looking at myself in the mirror, I see how cancer could rob anyone of her looks. I could hardly believe how I looked during the therapy – bald, skinny, pale and flat-chested. If I had not known my stand that I am a precious child of God, I would have been dismayed, depressed and might have lost my courage and self-esteem. But Jesus Christ is so personal to me that I would seek Him in my daily quiet times and meditation and He would always comfort me through His promises in the Bible. It’s like being a student at ‘University of Tribulations’, but His grace enabled me to overcome.

Let us not be easily discouraged, fret and doubt when faced with uncertainties of life. Instead, we should persevere in asking because it will be given to us according to God’s perfect will and time. Let us keep on seeking because we will find God. Let us keep on knocking because the doors of opportunities will be opened to us (Matthew 7:7-8). No one who seeks Jesus by faith and with perseverance will be refused with His help (James 1:2-5).
Let us live in the finished work of Christ—the realm of “DONE”. Everything we need—healing, provisions, or deliverance—has been accomplished for us by Jesus at the cross!
Long before I see my healing, I know and have believed that Jesus has already finished the work for my healing. If anyone is in need, see that all the work for our provision has been finished.
Today, I live in the finished work of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I continue to live in the place of trusting and resting on His promises.
To God be the glory and all honor!
Today, I live in the finished work of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
